Rubber conveyor belts should be widely used in industrial production. At the same time, different companies have varying requirements for conveyor belts. Therefore, when purchasing rubber conveyor belts, businesses should not only inspect the quality but also choose a belt that perfectly matches their specific needs. This chapter will guide you on how to select the right rubber conveyor belt.
1. Select according to the length of the belt conveyor
For short-distance belt conveyors, polyester conveyor belts should be used. For such short-distance applications, fabric-cored conveyor belts are suitable due to their low belt tension requirements. Currently, among fabric-cored conveyor belts, polyester fabric-cored belts stand out for their lower elongation and higher tensile strength, making them the preferred choice.
2. Select based on the properties of the material being conveyed
The material being conveyed contains large, high-hardness, block-like particles. When the material drops directly onto the receiving point with significant impact, in addition to the thickness and performance of the protective layer, the impact resistance of the conveyor belt itself should also be taken into account. It’s recommended to use conveyor belts that are highly resistant to both impact and tearing—particularly nylon conveyor belts. Of course, standard conveyor belts or other inferior products simply aren’t suitable, as they could easily lead to a variety of problems.
3. Can be selected according to specific operational requirements
For workplaces such as underground coal mines that involve combustible dust emissions, conveyor belts must be selected strictly in accordance with national standards. When using drum-driven belt conveyors, it is mandatory to use flame-retardant conveyor belts. Additionally, non-metallic components of the conveyor drum and the rubber material used in coated drums must also meet the relevant requirements for flame resistance and antistatic properties.
4. Temperature Requirements for Conveyor Belt Operating Environment
The operating temperature of the environment significantly influences the selection of rubber conveyor belts. Generally, the operating temperature range for standard conveyor belts is set between 25°C and 40°C as the upper and lower limits for selection. If the ambient temperature drops below 25°C, it’s essential to use cold-resistant conveyor belts. When conveyor belts operate in cold environments, the cover layers of conventional belts tend to harden, leading to surface cracking, poor groove formation, and increased slippage on the rollers. Therefore, during design, it’s crucial to choose a cold-resistant conveyor belt with the appropriate temperature rating based on the specific working conditions of the cold environment, ensuring reliable operation of the equipment.
